Trick or Treat

The Kingdom has surprised us once again.  Who would ever think that a pagan tradition like the Halloween would ever be celebrated in an ultra strict Muslim environment like Saudi Arabia?  We have been living here for almost four years and, in that time, have not heard of anyone mention that this tradition existed in this part of the world. That is, of course, until recently when a friend of ours invited us to join in their annual celebration in the Aramco Compound.

We immediately agreed to join (even if Oct 31 fell on a weekday) since we wanted Marga to experience how it is to dress up and go house-to-house asking for goodies.  This is her first time to join this type of event, unlike her two brothers who, if I may brag, are “Trick or Treat veterans” in their own right.

Marga was feeling a bit under the weather that night but Pinky and I felt that we just could not let her pass up on this event.  Thankfully, she felt better later in the evening and all three of our children had a blast!

Here are some of the photos we took that night.  Hope you enjoy them.

Our version of Tinkerbell…

… a Roman Emperor…

… and a Zombie from the Night of the Living Dead…hehehe!

The crowd was surprisingly thick but that did not stop us from getting those goodies.

On the way, we met a Jack-o-lantern…

… a pirate…

… Capt. Jack Sparrow + Minnie…

… a loonie…

… and some cartoonies!  Oh, by the way, those are our friends…

… more of us….

Later in the evening, we proceeded to have a pictorial with more friends.

When we drove home, our kids could not stop saying how much fun they had.  I must agree, though.  This is definitely one of the highlights of our stay here in Saudi Arabia!

See you again next year.  Happy Halloween!

  1. Yup, that was one fun Halloween indeed! 🙂 We are truly blessed to have been able to experience this even here in the desert.

    • Next year, we should be more prepared… you, Luigi and I should wear costumes too! Whaddyathink?
